A ROUNDABOUT IN MY HEAD / Dans ma tête un rond-point
Directed by Hassen Ferhani
100 min | Documentary | Algerian-French
In the largest slaughterhouse in Algiers, men live and work behind closed doors, to the throbbing rhythms of their tasks and their dreams. Hope, bitterness, love, paradise and hell, the football stories as of the Chaabi and Rai melodies that set their lives and their world.
“Despite the title, the decor does not contain any road elements and we find ourselves in a slaughterhouse in Algiers. Retained within such a framework so frequently described by the cinema, one might expect a show of cruelty (a word which literally means flowing blood). It is not. The slaughterhouse here is primarily a huis-clos, meaning a theatre stage on which some characters, who have taken up residence, develop. These men are the heroes (because this universe is exclusively male), young and old, and no steer, dead or alive, will steal the show from them.”
– Jean-Pierre Rehm, executive offier of FIDMarseille, international film festival
This movie night is part of « Le mois du film documentaire », an international celebration organized every year in November to promote documentary films. This event is coordinated by the French association Images en Bibliothèques, in partnership with the Institut français (headquarters).
