On Tuesday 12 March 2019, the Embassy of France in Nigeria will celebrate for the third time in less than one week, the International Women’s Day. Jointly organized with the High Commission of the United Kingdom and hosted at the Institut français du Nigeria, this event will bring to light the commitment of the Nigerian civil society for women’s rights. Following the screening of a documentary based on programs developed by International Alert for women and girls victims of violence in the Nort-East, an emphasis will be put on the launch of two initiatives in favour of women in Nigeria. Co-leaded by France and the United-Kingdom, the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative (PSVI) and the Commemoration of the 20th anniversary of UNSCR 1325, will be officially launched at this event. These initiatives will be the opportunity to gather and mobilize Nigerian CSOs on numbers of crucial questions raised by women’s rights in peace and security processes.
