The first edition of the Institut français du Nigeria Open Day took place in Abuja on September 17th. A unique occasion for the Abuja public to get an insight of the four main services offered at Institut français: cultural events, French classes, Campus France and the multimedia library. The programme featured conferences on the offer of professional classes and translation services, on studies in France and on cultural programme to come; as well as 20 minutes free sessions of French classes, a book fair and animations in the library.
More than 200 people participated in this event, among them 40 had the opportunity to test our French classes, and 80 followed the conferences. The book fair was a huge success with 1,150 books sold -mainly novels in French.
Since the beginning of the year 2016, the Institut français in Nigeria has developed a new strategy and a renovation of its space. The library is bigger and is more adapted to French students who now have adapted resources, space to study and a new multimedia space. The cultural strategy focuses on cross-cultural dialogue with Nigerian artists and the organization of events outdoors. Finally, the French language department now offers 3 months sessions so that the students can get the official certification at the end.
Many changes designed to meet the needs of the Abuja public, all condensed in this very successful Open Day!
