Alliance Française Nigeria, Institut Français du Nigeria and Goethe-Institut Nigeria are organizing a workshop in electronic music aimed at expanding the artistic range of Nigeria’s already booming music scene. DJs and producers with a strong artistic interest in electronic music are encouraged to apply!

6 Nigerian DJs/electronic music producers will be selected to take part in a 5-day electronic music workshop, labeled “Electronic Soundscapes”. Facilitated by 3 internationally-renowned producers, the workshop will take place in Lagos daily from June 8 to 12, 2015, and will culminate in two concerts – the first in Lagos on Saturday, June 13, and a second in Abuja on Saturday, June 20 to commemorate World Music Day.

The workshop aims to foster artistic interaction among German, French and Nigerian musicians in the area of non-mainstream, independent electronic music. It is a mutually-beneficial exchange for participants and the facilitators and will hopefully improve the skills that participants bring to the session as well as offer a rare opportunity to work with world-class producers from varying backgrounds.

About the DJs leading the workshop

DJ Afrologic (Nigeria)

AFROLOGIC, centred around D.J/producer Ade aka Afrologic, and singer Temi was formed in 2002. The duo set out to create an incomparable sound through the fusion of African beats and electronics.

Their style encompasses elements of tribal rhythm, funk, soul and dance, accompanied by smooth vocals and catchy melodies. Afrologic take it upon them to push the boundaries of conventional modern day Afrobeat(s), never afraid to manipulate sounds and textures beyond the average .

AFROLOGIC’S influences are wide and varied. Temi draws influence from Sarah Vaughn, Susana Baca and Virginia Rodriguez, while Eddie Gee cites Roy Ayers, P-Funk, Leroy Burgess and Jazzy B as major inspirations.

AFROLOGIC are currently in the studio recording their new album that will no doubt exceed all expectations and deliver the remarkable sound that their fans have come to expect. Definitely an act that will continue to impress.

DJ R-ASH (France)

Everything begins in 1996 when R-ASH inherits his first turntables and at a young age is seen as a genuine prodigy, becoming very quickly a reference in the world of French DJ’ing. At the age of 14 he brought home his first championship, coming back the next year to pick up the 2002 DMC Scratch Champion of France title and continues to collect them ever since. Moving early on to the stage and club scene, he has forged a unique identity over time

Since 2004 R-ASH conducts his own parties and mixes in the most prestigious Parisian clubs where he continues to assert that a DJ is first and foremost a performer. Today R-ASH takes care not to leave his audience hungry for entertainment performing in clubs and festivals around the world.
On stage he applies his eclectic and well-thought out perspectives to his sets which are widely appreciated for their musicality, running through HIP HOP to ELECTRO.

His Remixs & original tracks are played by superstars dj’s like Diplo or Ta-Ku just to name a few… His debut single “i Own You” has been released on April 2014 on his own label “Lobby Records”.

Marko Fürstenberg (Germany)

Marko Fürstenberg seems to have followed the typical path to being a successful producer and DJ in the techno scene. Growing up in the GDR, more precisely in Thuringia, Marko managed to get his hands on records by groups like Depeche Mode, A-Ha and New Order.

Only a couple of years after the fall of the wall, Marko started DJ’ing at regional parties, fostering his interest in music and labels like X-Trax, Force Inc., Klang and later Basic Channel. Venturing further into production with his computer at home, he released his first music – a mixture between downbeat and trip hop.

With more and more internet labels on the horizon, Marko then released recordings under different monikers on labels like Thinner, Realaudio, Stadtgruen and Instabil, and provided Remixes for Digitalverein, Rktic, Lod and Sarah Goldfarb.

It was shortly after his first physical vinyl release that Marko decided to refrain from using different artists names and stick with his real name for future releases and performances.

after moving to leipzig in 2006, marko approached a peak level in productivity, releasing a number of songs in rapid succession with labels like a.r.t.less, echocord, rotary-cocktail, ornaments, etc.

marko’s success within the constantly changing techno scene didn’t come as a surprise: together with diverse dj partners as well as solo artist marko is now performing regularly in clubs & parties all over the world.

his live sets combine classic dub-techno elements with current techno trends, which is much valued by his audience. with this kind of electronic music marko is considerably involved in the development of dub- and deep-techno.
